Mission Statement of the Jacoby Center

To heighten the academic distinctiveness of the University of the Pacific through civic engagement by students and faculty.

Collaborating with other departments in the College of the Pacific as well as the University’s professional schools, Jacoby Center fosters leadership development and provides experiential learning opportunities including community involvement and student research. Community and regional partnerships with governmental and non-profit agencies focus the attention of the Center on issues of critical importance to California. Jacoby Center actively promotes outreach to diverse communities, alumni involvement in the learning process, the application of technology to policy analysis, and engaged scholarship. To achieve its mission, Jacoby Center.

  • offers a student centered curriculum which brings members of the Stockton and Sacramento communities into the classroom, focusing on the issues which confront non-profit and governmental leaders;
  • places students and faculty as interns and researchers in local non-profit and governmental settings to work with leaders in the pursuit of current challenges;
  • provides opportunities for students, faculty and community leaders to meet together to explore common issues and share best practices.

Jacoby Center seeks to involve students in every aspect of the civic life of Stockton, the Central Valley, and the State.
